Australia Zoo and Brisbane

Whilst planning our trip to Australia I already knew that I wanted to come to Australia Zoo as it is the zoo that the late Steve Irwin owned. We were big fans of his show when we were younger, so the chance to go visit his zoo was something that we wanted to take.We arrived at the zoo half an hour before it opened as we (probably more me to be fair) was quite excited. It was expected to a bit of a drizzly day so there wasn’t much of a queue but we bumped again into the Danish couple from the Fraser Island tour.
The zoo was amazing, Steve Irwin is still heavily on display around the zoo which is still owned and run by his wife. It would appear that his daughter Bindi is being heavily primed to be the face of the zoo.

The best thing about the zoo was that all the animals seem to have large areas in which to roam and be as natural as possible whilst raising awareness of wildlife to all visitors which we both really liked.

The highlights of the zoo were feeding Kangaroo’s, the amazing lunchtime show displaying nearly all kinds of zoo animals in a very well put together performance and the croc show!

It was a fantastic day out and we stayed right up until it was about to close.

The next day we were off to Brisbane to visit the city, whilst driving around the city to find somewhere to park we realised that it was quite tricky to find anywhere that would fit a 2.65m campervan! Luckily we managed to get a space at the botanical gardens where we stopped for some lunch.

We didn’t do anything ‘touristy’ in the city, we ended up going for a coffee and walking around the shopping area which was all very nice.

In the evening we were stopping in with friends of Cath’s family, John and Kim, for dinner. It was great to meet them and to spend time chatting over some fabulous fresh seafood and chips!
